Smart EngineeringExtensive testwork over a 2-year period combined with robust industrial mining technologies and clever design have resulted in a cost-effective beneficiation process plant design for OneSteel’s new Iron Baron project. The challenge for this project was managing the high variability of the low-grade stockpiles. Mineral Technologies’ know-how and experience in metallurgical testwork was a key part of the solution, uncovering a number of beneficiation options. The extensive testwork delivered a process design utilising the latest HC33 gravity separation spiral technology to achieve a cost-effective solution. Currently under construction, the plant will beneficiate highly variable low-grade ore from 50-59% Fe to an Fe content of 64%. At full feed capacity of 250 TPH, the plant will produce 1 MTPA of high grade hematite. This new project for OneSteel is further evidence of an emerging trend across Australia to beneficiate low-grade stockpiles to produce high-grade ore. Total SolutionOneSteel’s high regard for Mineral Technologies’ expertise has seen the team work with OneSteel from concept through design and execution. Awarded the EPC contract in 2010, Mineral Technologies and its parent Downer Australia is currently delivering the construction phase which is expected to be completed in 2012. Based on Mineral Technologies’ extensive testwork on the project, the total solution also includes a process guarantee which significantly reduces project risk for OneSteel. |
